Eat, Pray, Love – Women in Charge of Their Lives

Add Comment

Women have always been thought of as “the weaker sex." Now the world is finally becoming aware that women are no longer weak and are also taking charge of their lives.

In the book and the movie “Eat, Pray, Love,” one woman takes an enormous risk by getting a divorce and traveling the world alone in search of herself. Traveling worldwide may seem extreme to some, but to really find herself this woman felt that she had to gain distance from all that was comfortable for her.

"Skyline," Is that it?

Trailer Review

I watched the trailer for the the sci-fi thriller "Skyline," It is labeled as a trailer. But it is a teaser. One minute thirty three seconds of a teaser. I read the synopsis put out by Universal Studios -- "strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth."

Being a sci-fi fan from way back, ever since I watched "The Day The Earth Stood Still," (the 1951 version, the good one), I said WOW!

Pulling A Steven-Slater: It's In The Way You Quit Your Job

Sometimes the job gets to the best of workers, especially when the job requires dealing with the public, and among the public are more than a few very difficult customers. I've been there.

Yesterday morning, Steven Slater, a flight attendant at Jet Blue Airline, came to the point when he said enough is enough and became an instant Internet folk hero.

Who hasn't had days like Steven Slater and who, working in the service field, haven't had to deal with a difficult customer or two and wanted to pull a Steven-Slater?

Nicholas Merrill: True Patriot & Hero

Add Comment

American hero and true patriot, Nicholas Merrill, age 37, was silenced for six years under a gag order. He couldn't defend himself or his company. He had to shut up and to keep quiet. Why? The U.S. Patriot Act, which is the most unpatriotic thing since the infamous and odious Alien and Sedition Acts of the late eighteenth century. What makes Mr. Merrill an America hero is that he challenged the government's heavy hand and won.

Mr. Merrill's story was reported yesterday at Wired.com.

Eat, Pray, LoveEat, Pray, LoveI haven’t read “Eat, Pray, Love”  by Elizabeth Gilbert and I am on the fence about whether or not to see the movie starring Julia Roberts. Enough people have told me about the book that I feel like I know it already- a woman seeks out salvation and finds herself in an Ashram in India.

Stop the Bickering- Try Out the Silly Code Word Strategy

Potato HeadPotato HeadI just realized that a friend of mine is an EQ genius at relationships-she recently returned from a trip to tropics with her husband and discovered a way to stop any minor arguments on their trip. They’ve both traveled before, both for business trips and small adventures around this country and others, and she was concerned before the trip began that they might fight or bicker about where to go or what to do.

Sarah Palin is Small

Palin Looks Pretty Small

I really hadn't noticed how small Sarah Palin is. She stopped to confront a person in her home state who had a really big banner that said of the Alaska half-term governor, that she was the worst governor ever. Maybe Sarah Palin thinks people love her, with the exception of a few misguided liberals, so she stopped to chat with the protester. She did look relaxed. Her crew, her daughter and hubby, looked very much not at all relaxed, and another guy, who maybe is a body guard, looked as if he wanted to shut down the camera recording the encounter.

In the video, Ms. Palin seems to be seeking a dialogue, until she discovers that she she is talking to a teacher, whom obviously, is many times smarter than Palin.

Scooby Dooby Doo, You’ve Got Some Kids to Scare Now

Add Comment

Recalling the Scooby Doo of my childhood, I could only recall vague images of a goofy dog and his fearless (sometimes) foursome of friends riding around in a really hippy dippy van “solving” mysteries—which usually meant pulling masks off of people after they followed really obvious clues. Revisiting the show with my child now, I’m realizing that it’s sort of scary—at least in some ways—and misdirection is a pretty common theme.

What CSI does for criminals, I think Scooby Doo does for kids—it can teach you how to not just get away with something, but also how to blame it on someone else! Kids, of course, rarely have access to the equipment, holographic imagery, or costumes that the Scooby Doo criminals do.

It is Time To Boycott Fox

Rupert MurdochRupert Murdoch

Fox has become the worst kind of corporation. Its News division is an agent of division. Fox, through its cable news operation, is the meanest kind of corporate operator. The company promotes racism, religious bigotry, stirs up hate and fear for the sole purpose of making money

I received this in the morning email from Media Matters --

"It's been clear for some time now that the culture of accountability at Fox News doesn't, you know ... exist. If you're a Fox News employee, you can get away with pretty much anything. Photoshopping the faces of New York Times reporters to make them ugly caricatures of themselves? No problem
