Taking responsibility for actions is the foundation, and is needed for the basis of bringing about change. Denial or pushing aside the issue is just a means to deflect the problem, and is the current stance of the Catholic Church.
A CNN report has senior cardinal Angelo Sodano, former secretary of state and the dean of the College of Cardinals as saying, "...the pontiff maintains the support of Catholics around the world who do not let themselves be influenced by the gossip."
When one thinks they can't go any lower, they have to say something like this. The obvious reference he's making has to be about the sexual abuse allegations plagueing the Catholic Church, and its ignorant to call it "gossip."
This is beyond a serious problem, and needs to be addressed immediately, and obviously isn't with statements like that. Catholics around the world are looking for answers, answers they deserve, and answers and action that need to come soon.
